St. Vincent Hospital, not a likely place she would have enjoyed waking up in. Though, here she was.. That was, if she could keep herself fully awake at any given time. The memory of what had happened the prior night still fresh in her hazed mind. Fortunately for her, she couldn't remember much after the SUV had stopped once it had met its destination. Voices, she knew she'd heard them but hadn't been able to make them out. She had no clue how she'd made it to the hospital nor when, nor did she realize yet the full extent of her injuries.
They had rushed her into surgery as soon as they were able to assess the situation. Exploratory laparotomy was needed, as the gunshot had entered but had made no exit wound. Time was spent fishing out the pieces of the bullet along with the repair needed on her intestine and kidney. Drains were inserted, sututred and left due to the amount of blood she'd lost and the swelling that was occurring. This would allow for any fluid build up to drain out, keeping infection at bey. She'd lost a good amount of blood, which was common with this type of injury and they'd toyed with the idea of a blood transfusion. However, they decided to have it ready but wait it out. Injuries found due to the fall from the tree consisted of a concussion and a fractured coccyx (tailbone). Not to bad, considering.
It was unsure when she'd be released from the hospital due to the severity of it all, one thing was for certain. She was going to find her own way out if they didn't release her soon. Even in her state, she knew that being confined in a hospital bed left her wide open for anyone that wised to visit her. Being in a hospital didn't mean you were safe, in fact, it was the complete opposite and that thing was, she knew she was alone in this. The jack ass that had visited her at her shop had threatened to make another appearance and what better place then here? Not to mention the multitude of lab work that had been done on her would be bad new for her if it landed in the wrong hands. She knew people from back home would be looking for her, she knew some wouldn't believe the stories of her death and all it would take was a small amount of blood to verify that she was in fact, still alive.
Alyssa tried to move in the bed, with no success other then the small grunt due to the sudden sharp pain her back as she did so. Sure, they drugs they were giving her were great and kept most of the pain tolerable but it never made it one hundred percent. She was mess and probably looked even worse then she felt. Head moved to the side, eyeing her cell phone that was sitting on the end table right beside her bed. She should call people to thank them for their help and yet, the only number she had as Jas's. Which made her wonder how she was doing, surely she'd managed to get out before it got to bad.. She couldn't make her body move and thus, just laid there staring at her cell phone.
